Ralph R. "Buster" Allbee, 92, of Eldora, died from natural causes on Monday, November 27, 2006 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm, Friday, December 1 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora with Pastor Corey Larson officiating. Burial will follow in the Eldora City Cemetery with military honors provided by Walter-Sayer Post 182 of the American Legion and Roll-Harless Post 3974 of the VFW. Visitation is from 5 pm to 7 pm on Thursday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.
Ralph was born August 23, 1914, in rural Eldora, son of Benjamin and Grace (Rubendall) Allbee. He was educated in the Eldora school system and on June 16, 1931 he was united in marriage to Bernice A. Leggett in South Dakota. Ralph was a WWII Veteran serving from 1943 to 1945 as a Motor Man 2nd Class on PT Boats, receiving the Purple Heart. He worked as a driver for REA Express in Iowa Falls, then operated Modern Dry Cleaning in Eldora for several years before retiring in 1974. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Walter-Sayer Post 182 of the American Legion, and Roll-Harless Post 3974 of the VFW where he held several offices. Ralph was also a volunteer fireman for many years and a former member of the Odd Fellows Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice; daughter-in-law, Donna Allbee of Eldora; grandchildren, Steve (Robin) Allbee of Eldora, Mark (Deborah) Allbee of Temecula, California, Cathy (Mike) Fife of Penasquitas, California, Ralph J. (Lynn) Allbee of Eldora, Annette (Danny) Duncan of Sonora, California, and Liz Allbee Wolfe of Eldora; sister Mary Jean Goodell of Eldora and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Ives; sister, Mildred Alhovesky; and brothers, Dale and Kenny.
