Rachel Lou Omvig, 27, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to the American Lutheran Church, Grundy Center or The Cedar Bend Humane Society.

Rachel was born on July 8, 1988 in Gillette, Wyoming to her parents Randall and Ellen (Kitch) Omvig. She attended Grundy Center High School. She obtained her GED and went on to study at Hawkeye Community College and Upper Iowa University. Rachel was working her way through college as a desk clerk at several motels. She worked hard and earned a certificate as a CNA.

Rachel was a loving soul and enjoyed helping people and animals. She especially loved cats and dogs and had two cats of her own. In life Rachel gave of herself and that continues after her death as she selflessly chose to be an organ donor. Many people will benefit from her generosity. She will be missed and long remembered by her many friends and family.

Rachel is survived by her parents Randall and Ellen; her brother Jacob Omvig (his fiancée Caihlin Durkin); grandmother Nancy Omvig; aunts & uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother SPC Joshua Omvig, USA; her grandparents William and Jimmie Lou Kitch, Julian Omvig and John Kramer.
