Phyllis June Wiese was born June 10, 1923, in Hancock, IA the youngest of three. As a young child she moved with her family to Omaha, NE, where she later graduated from North High School.
She met Curtis Harmon at a dance in Omaha and they married on August 26, 1944. In 1945 they moved to Eldora, IA, after purchasing a gas station on the east side of town with Curt's dad Walter Harmon.
Phyllis is survived by her children: Nancy (Dwight) Humke of Des Moines, Don (Karen Schieve) Harmon of San Francisco, CA; Jan (Jim) Stonewall of Cedar Falls, and Bob (Ann) Harmon of Des Moines. She has five grandchildren: Diane (Allen) Beatley, Neal (Amanda Heiberg) Humke, Dean (Lisa Mitchell) Humke, Drew Stonewall, and Tom (Jenna) Harmon. There are three great-grandchildren: Tyler Humke, Chase Humke, and Laura Beatley. Phyllis is also survived by four nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Bertha (Grodt) Wiese, her brother Vince Wiese, sister Odette Fuller, and spouse Curtis Harmon in 1999.
Phyllis loved her family, church, dancing, birds, baking, and winning at Bridge. She was known for her pies and always brought them to family and church gatherings. She never worried about how attractive they looked, saying: "The messier it looks, the better it tastes!" She used her original rolling pin for over 65 years.
Phyllis dearly loved her church, First Congregational, UCC of Eldora and her minister Rev. Corey Larson and actively participated until a recent decline in health. Over the years she was a member of Mother's Club, PEO, church circle, and many Bridge clubs.
The family wishes to thank Eldora Nursing and Rehab, Care Initiatives Hospice, and Dr. Brown for the excellent care she received.
