Paul E. Rash, 81, of rural Aplington, Iowa, died Monday, February 5, 2007, at his home in rural Aplington, Iowa, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Friday, February 9, 2007, at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center, Iowa, with Pastor Mike Nemmers officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, February 8, 2007, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center, Iowa. Burial will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 10, 2007, at Green Hill Cemetery in Rock Port, Missouri. A memorial fund has been established.
Paul was born February 5, 1926, in Phelp City, Missouri, the son of Roy and Effie Ethel (Presnell) Rash. Paul graduated from the class of 1944 at Rock Port High School in Rock Port, Missouri. On May 9, 1944, Paul enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1947. On November 23, 1945, Paul was united in marriage to Amy Lillian Phifer in Olathe, Kansas. He then married Linda K. Weber, and they were later divorced. Paul moved to the Cedar Valley during the late 1940's. He became employed at John Deere Foundry on August 11, 1948. He worked there until he retired in 1978. In 1991, he moved to Aplington.
He is survived by his children- son Jerry Rash and Tamara Brannon of Manhattan, Kansas; son Jack Rash and his wife Wendy of Raymond, Iowa; son Rick Rash and his wife Helen; daughter Wanda Brouseau and her husband Joel of Orlando, Florida; daughter Rosemary Edison of Waterloo, Iowa; daughter Rebecca Rash and Douglas Wooden of Cedar Falls, Iowa; daughter Mona Rash-Jarrell and her husband Mickey Jarrell of Burr Hill, Virginia; daughter Michelle Buffalo of Burr Hill, Virginia; daughter Denise Rash of Burr Hill, Virginia; and son Paul E. Rash II; fifteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one sister Ellen Wallace of Independence, Missouri; and one brother Wayne Rash and his wife Donna of Fort Scott, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Vicki Rash; one granddaughter Sheri Dawn Jarrell; one sister Ruth Rice; and one brother Roy "Bud" Rash.
