Paul L. Plaehn, 90 of Reinbeck passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Parkview Manor in Reinbeck. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the Union Congregational United Church of Christ. Burial will follow at the Reinbeck Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Reinbeck American Legion Action Post #242. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2012 at the French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck. A memorial is being established.
Paul LeRoy Plaehn was born on April 21, 1922 on a farm near Reinbeck, Iowa. He was the son of Henry and Emma (Thiessen) Plaehn. Paul grew up in the Reinbeck community and graduated from Reinbeck High School with the class of 1939. Paul served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the European theater and received a Purple Heart. Paul was united in marriage to Darlene Lampe on October 11, 1952 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa
Paul and Darlene moved to Reinbeck in 1960, when Paul started work for the United States Postal Service. He retired in 1984.
Paul was a member of the Union Congregational United Church of Christ, Happy Hour Club and American Legion Action Post #242.He enjoyed watching sports, volunteering at T.B.I. and doing jigsaw puzzles.
Paul is survived by his wife Darlene of Reinbeck; two daughters, Connie Plaehn of Chappaqua, NY, Cynthia Robinson of Lititz, PA and one son, Kent (Ann) Plaehn of Morton, IL; 6 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 5 step great-grandchildren and one great granddaughter; one sister, Bernice Craig of Dike, IA; 2 brothers, Kenneth Plaehn of Reinbeck, IA and Leonard (Beverly) Plaehn of Spring Valley, MN. Many nieces and nephews and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Kevin, 3 sisters, Beulah, Alta and Lois; 3 brothers, Harold, Earl and Charles and one grandson, K. Thomas Bolen.
