Paul McCrea

Paul McCrea, 91, of Eldora, died on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora while under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. Following cremation, memorial services will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, February 11, 2013 at the Eldora United Methodist Church in Eldora with Pastor Vicki Reece officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memory Gardens. A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday from 5 to 7pm at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora with Masonic services beginning at 7pm. Memorials may be directed to Care Initiatives Hospice or the charity of your choice.
Paul Kenneth McCrea was born to Frank & Blanche (Secress) McCrea in Eddyville, Iowa on March 25, 1921. He attended school in Oskaloosa, Iowa. In l940, he attended a National Youth Camp in Milford, Iowa to learn the mechanic trade. Paul enlisted into Army-Air Force early in 1942. He was united in marriage to Darlene (Boers) on September 8, 1942. To this union two children were born, son James and daughter, Janet.
Paul served his country during World War II working on aircraft guns and served in Southeast Asia. In 1945, he returned from service to Spencer, Iowa where he worked as a mechanic. After moving to Eldora, he worked for LaVelle Oil Company for 30 years driving a tank wagon and servicing fuel oil furnaces. After he retired, he enjoyed working on small engines.
Besides spending time with his family, Paul enjoyed golfing, traveling and fishing. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, the American Legion and also very active in the Boys Scout program.
Paul is survived by his wife of 70 years, Darlene; son, James (Joyce) McCrea of Milford; daughter, Janet (Kent) Shafer of Des Monies; granddaughters, Robin McCrea, Angie (Chad) Ross, Becky (McLean) Jordan; and grandsons, Randall McCrea, Michael McCrea, and Tony Shafer. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James; sister-in-law Peggy; and granddaughter, Kimberly.
