Patricia A. Scheumann, 72 of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Sunday, March 26, 2006, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, March 30, 2006, at St. John's Lutheran Church-LCMS, in Reinbeck, with Pastor Bruce Boyce officiating. Burial will follow at the Reinbeck Cemetery in Reinbeck. Visitation is from 12:00 noon to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck, where the family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Memorials may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church-LCMS.
Patricia was born July 30, 1933, in rural Fort Wayne, Indiana, daughter of Carl and Lucile (Bolyard) Grotrian. She attended and graduated from Hoagland High School in Hoagland, Indiana. On May 9, 1954, Patricia was united in marriage to Kenneth William Scheumann in Decatur, Indiana. The couple lived and farmed near Hoagland, Indiana, until 1964, when they moved to rural Reinbeck, Iowa. They farmed east of town until they retired in 1998, and moved to Reinbeck in May 2000. Patricia's husband Kenneth died on January 14, 2002.
Patricia was a farmwife and homemaker, and had also worked for a few years at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in the housekeeping department. Patricia was a faithful and devoted member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she had been a member of the Dorcas Society and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. In the past few years, Patricia had also been active with the Grundy County Relay For Life. She loved to read, and loved many outdoor activities, especially flower gardening and yard work.
She is survived by her three sons, Brent Scheumann and his wife Deb of Olathe, Kansas; Brian Scheumann of Antioch, California; and Todd Scheumann and his wife Traci of Olathe Kansas; eleven grandchildren, Charity Bennett and her husband Jeff, Shannon Morrow, Josh Morrow, Austin Scheumann, Allison Scheumann, Alex Scheumann, Derek Scheumann, Kyle Scheumann, Lukas Scheumann, Trevor Scheumann, and Allayna Scheumann; five great-grandchildren, Josh, Kirsten, Audrey, Nathan, and Sydney Bennett; one brother, James Grotrian his wife Bev of Fort Wayne, Indiana; three sisters, Beverly Dabney and her husband Al of New Haven, Indiana; Nancy Bitner and her husband Steven of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Bonnie Feagler of Fort Wayne, Indiana; two sisters-in-law, Delores Hoffman of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Melba Layton and her husband Phil of Wheaton, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Kenneth in 2002.
