Ordean "Barney" Freese, 83, of Eldora, passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Hansen Family Hospital in Iowa Falls of natural causes. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 25th at 10:30 A.M. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora with Pastor David Splett officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow services at the Eldora City Cemetery with military honors performed by the American Legion Walter-Sayer Post #182 and V.F.W. Roll-Harless #3974. Memorials may be directed to Barney's wife Dorothy.
Barney was born on February 4, 1931, in Coulter, Iowa, the son of Adolph & Laura Freese. He grew up in Coulter and attended school there, along with his 8 siblings. On August 2, 1951, Barney enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged after several years of active duty. He later met Dorothy Daleske and the couple were united in marriage on October 7, 1956 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora. After his time served in the military, Barney worked a short time as a local farm hand and then began working as a painter, owning and operating his own painting business, "Barney's Painting & Decorating", where he retired from many years later.
He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and the American Legion Walter-Sayer Post #182. Barney enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He was a very hardworking man who will be dearly missed by his loving wife Dorothy.
Barney is survived by his wife Dorothy of Eldora; sisters Allys Mae Berghofer of Prescott, AZ & Judy (Cliff) Schuler of Hampton, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers and 1 sister.
