Opal M. Hood, 79, of Grundy Center, formerly Morrison, died Monday, January 8, 2007, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Grundy Center, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 12, 2007, at the First Presbyterian Church in Reinbeck, Iowa; with Pastor Randy McGrady-Beach officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Township Cemetery, rural Morrison. Visitation is from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday at French Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck with the family present to greet friends from 6 pm to 8 pm. Memorials may be directed to Opal's family.
Opal was born October 10, 1927, in Urbana, Missouri, daughter of Lloyd and Rosa (Crane) Morgan. She was raised and educated in Preston, Missouri, graduating in 1946. On June 19, 1949, Opal was united in marriage to William "Bill" Hood in Reinbeck. They made their home in Morrison, Iowa, living there for thirty-five years until moving to Grundy Center in 1996. She was employed as a telephone operator and then as a plastics inspector for Norwesco (Plastronics) in Grundy Center for 23 years. Opal retired in the summer of 1985. Opal's husband, "Bill" died on October 27, 1998. Opal continued to make Grundy Center her home. Opal enjoyed reading romance novels and watching professional football on television. Opal's family was very important to her.
Surviving are her children, daughter Connie (Don) Diamond of Conrad, Iowa; daughter Kathy (Ron) Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; son Jeffery (Tammy) of Ferguson, Iowa; son Stanley (Michele) of Waterloo, Iowa; son James (Donna) of Oskaloosa, Iowa; and daughter Lisa (Steve) Dean of Wellsburg, Iowa; eighteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; one brother Otis Morgan (Patsy) of Fairplay, Missouri; three sisters Virginia Edge (Tommy) of Preston, Missouri; Lynn Johnson (Troy) of Urbana, Missouri; Rita Bennett of Raytown, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William "Bill" in 1998; three infant children Robbie, Paula, and Steven; one grandson Mike Eiffler; and one sister Mabel June.
