Opal F. Brown, 87, of Eldora, Iowa, died on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at the University Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. Following cremation graveside services will be held at 10 am on Friday, November 15 at the Eldora City Cemetery in Eldora, Iowa with Pastor Corey Larson of the First Congregational United Church of Christ officiating. Memorials may be directed to the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora. Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora is in charge of the arrangements and messages of condolence may be posted at www.abelsfuneralhomes.com.
Opal was born March 26, 1926 near Whitten, Iowa, daughter of Charles and Roxy (Vinton) Dunn. She graduated from Whitten High School in 1943 and on May 9, 1948 she was united in marriage to Donald "Brownie" Brown at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora. She worked in Marks Drug Store in Eldora for 27 years before retiring in 1976.
She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora where she was involved with the Women's Fellowship group, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye supporter attending as many sporting events as she could.
She is survived by her sister, Fannie Mae Lindquist of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; sisters-in-law, Ruth Dunn of Grandbury, Texas and June Dunn of Cedar Falls; and nieces and nephews, Karmel (Bob) Berger of Sioux Falls, Mark (Bette Ann) Lindquist of Squaw Valley, California, Nancy (Jim) Holt of Richardson, Texas, Linda (Alan) Jones of Cedar Falls and Mary Dunn of Cedar Falls. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald "Brownie" on November 9, 2007; by her parents; and by her brothers, Eugene and Jay Dunn.
