Norma D. Block, 84, of Wellsburg, IA, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center, IA. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 22nd, 10:00 A.M. at the St. John Lutheran Church in Wellsburg with Pastor Bruce Zimmermann officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 21st from 5 to 7 P.M. at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg. Burial will follow funeral services at the Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg.
Norma was born on January 8, 1927, in Sycamore, Illinois, the daughter of Guy & Mabel (Mills) Luther. The family later moved to Oelwein, IA where Norma attended school. She graduated from Oelwein High School in 1944. After high school, Norma worked as a clerk for JC Penney and Montgomery Ward and also worked as a bookkeeper and a waitress. On June 8, 1947, Norma was united in marriage to Walter C.W. Block in Oelwein. The couple welcomed three children. She and her husband lived in Waverly, IA, Auburn, IA and made their home in Wellsburg in 1956, where Norma had lived up until just recently, when she moved to the Grundy Care Center.
Norma was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Wellsburg. She loved music, playing cards & Bridge and she especially loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children Charles (Mary) Block of Ackley, IA, Ed (Brenda) Block of Chillicothe, Missouri and Deb (Ron) Sizemore of Eldora, IA; grandchildren Kristy Block, Tracie (Bryan) Klassen, Nathan (Sara) Sizemore, Lindsay (Brandon) Mathis, Kara Sizemore and Will Block & Lesley McAdams; great-grandchildren Riley, & Tayte Klassen, Kaitlyn, Ellie & Emma Sizemore, Bryce & Noah Mathis and Ayden and Dylan McAdams. Norma was preceded in death by her parents; husband Walter; sister Verlaine Schulmeiester.
