Nelda was born on December 8, 1922 in Waukee, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur Beasley & Corbel Beasley-Jones. She grew up in Marshalltown where she attended school, graduating from the Marshalltown High School with the class of 1940. After graduation, Nelda worked at Tall Corn Towers as a switchboard operator and also worked at Kiowa, both in Marshalltown.

She later met Clarence Geerdes and the two were married at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Wellsburg on November 1, 1947. The couple made their home in Wellsburg and in 1962, Nelda and Clarence adopted their son David. She worked for the family business, Iowa Radiant Electric Heat but mostly worked as a homemaker.

Nelda was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ackley. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, knitting and crocheting but what Nelda truly treasured most was her family. They were the center of her life and she will be dearly missed by those she leaves behind to cherish her memory.

She is survived by her husband of over 65 years, Clarence of Wellsburg; son David (Kelly) Geerdes of Union; grandchildren Adam Geerdes, Brian (Jodee) Geerdes, Steven Geerdes, Amanda Geerdes, David Geerdes Jr., Roy Tiefel & Brandi Tiefel. Great-grandchildren Coulter & Layne Geerdes and Peyton & Daniel Geerdes; brother Wayne (Blanche) Beasley of Marshalltown. Nelda was preceded in death by her parents; sister Thelma Taylor.
