Myrna Thoren

Myrna L. (Lynch) Thoren, 93, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Thursday, February 03, 2005, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital-Long Term Care Unit, of natural causes. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, February 7, 2005, at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, Iowa, with Pastor Kent Leydens and Pastor Larry Hoop officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 9:00 A.M. until service time on Monday at the church. There will be no public visitation. Private family inurnment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established.

Myrna was born May 18, 1911, in Palermo Township, Grundy County, Iowa, the youngest child of Thomas Jefferson and Mary Catharine (Kinsinger) Lynch. She attended Palermo No. 8 county school and later Grundy Center High School graduating in 1929 with a Normal Training Degree in teaching. Myrna taught rural school in Palermo, Washington, Melrose, and Clay townships before her marriage to Lee Thoren on October 30, 1937, in Dubuque, Iowa. For several years, Myrna worked as a clerk in the J.C. Penney Store in Grundy Center. In 1957, she and Lee bought a farm northwest of Grundy Center where they farmed until retirement. They enjoyed several years of wintering in Arizona until her health failed. After Lee's death in 1995, Myrna became a resident of the Long Term Care Unit.

Myrna was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center. She especially enjoyed doing things for and with her family. Watching her grandchildren participate in sporting events and other school activities was a favorite pastime.

She is survived by one son Charles Thoren and his wife Ruth of Grundy Center, Iowa; one daughter Delores Teasdale and her husband Larry of Grundy Center, Iowa; four grandchildren Scott Teasdale and wife Cynthia of Davenport, Iowa; Lori Nibaur and husband Mark of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; Kimra Venenga and her husband Kevin of Mantorville, Minnesota; and Molly Sherman and her husband Tom of Sunnyvale, California; seven great-grandchildren Thompson and Linnea Teasdale, Nathanial and Preston Nibaur, Kalianne and Kyle Venenga, and Koby Sherman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lee in 1995; one great-granddaughter Emileigh Nibaur in 2000, seven brothers William Earl, Lewis, Bert, Harry, Ralph, Myron, and Ross Lynch; and three sisters Savannah Pierce, Nora Jontz, and Orpha Smith.
