Minnie Harlan

Minnie Harlan, 103, of Wellsburg, Iowa died on Friday, June 29, 2012 at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center, Iowa while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Memorial services will be at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the United Reformed Church in Wellsburg with Pastor Matthew Nuiver officiating. A private family inurnment will follow in the Steamboat Rock Cemetery in Steamboat Rock, Iowa.

Minnie was born May 8, 1909 in Rural Steamboat Rock, Iowa, daughter of Siebe and Nantje (Reikena) Meyer. She attended Shiloh #3 then graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1926. On August 21, 1938 Minnie was united in marriage to David W. Taffinder who passed away on May 22, 1982. Minnie married Harry R. Taffinder on April 12, 1986 and he passed on March 10, 1988. Minnie then married Earl Harlan on October 24, 1990. Earl passed away on January 3, 1991.

She had several jobs including owning a grocery store, worked as an employee at several restaurants, and worked at Plastronics in Grundy Center, Iowa. She was a member of the United Reformed Church in Wellsburg and was proud of living in her home at 808 S. Monroe for many, many years.

Surviving is her daughter, Rita Brown of Arlington, Virginia; sister, Clareen (Bob) Baehr of Bella Vista, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Gertrude Meyer of Los Angeles, California; grandchildren, Terri Pitts, David Taffinder, Charmaine Brown McVicker and Matthew Louis Brown; and great-grandchildren, Caty , Alex and Brian McVicker. She was preceded in death by her 3 husbands; her parents; son, Ron Taffinder, sisters Claaska, Gertrude, Eva, Frieda and Donna; brothers, Clarence, Edward and Harley; and son-in-law, Lou Brown.
