Minnie C. Eddy, 93, of Dike, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at The Western Home, Martin Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Dike. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Dike. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, The Western Homes Stanard Center Library, Dike Library children's section, or Dike United Methodist Church.
Minnie Caroline was born the daughter of George and Marie (Willig) Bessman on May 1, 1920, in Buckeye, Iowa. Minnie grew up in the Wellsburg area where she attended school. On July 11, 1942, Minnie was united in marriage with Calvin Jackson Eddy in Unionville, MO. Jack passed away December 30, 1958.
Minnie spent the next years from 1960 until she retired in 1985 as a childcare provider for many area children. Minnie was a favorite Sunday school teacher with all the preschool children at the Dike United Methodist Church. She was crowned queen of the Dike bi-centennial celebration. Minnie was a member of Dike United Methodist Church. Minnie enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers Zeal Bessman and Brice Bessman, and sisters, Ruth Roegner, Lois Moore and DeLilah Whitmire.
Minnie is survived by four children; Jackie (Dale) Robinson of Chisholm, MN, Barb (Tom) Rich of Dike, IA, Charles (Sharon) Eddy of Newell, IA, and Mary (Dennis) Perdock of Des Moines, IA; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; brother, Don (Bonnie) Bessman and sister, Eileen Schultz of Marshalltown., and many nieces and nephews.
