Mildred Jane Witt, 102, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Friday, March 11, 2011, at Parkview Manor in Reinbeck, Iowa.
Mildred Jane Witt was born March 4, 1909 the daughter of Thomas and Jennie (Fleming) Dinsdale in rural Traer. There were thirteen children, seven boys and six girls, in the Dinsdale family. She attended country school then later to Dinsdale Consolidated school and graduated in 1928. She was a housekeeper for her brother, Floyd, until her marriage to Vern E. Witt on December 20, 1933. To this union four children were born. They farmed in rural Reinbeck for four years before moving to the Witt family farm east of Voorhies, in 1937. She lived on the family farm until moving to her home in Reinbeck in 1982. In 2008 she moved to Parkview Manor, Reinbeck, where she resided until her death.
Mildred was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hudson, the U.M.W. and Sunnyview Club. She dedicated her life to caring for her four children and loving her grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. "Grandma Witt" was a wonderful cook, noted for rolls, cinnamon rolls and brownies. Tending to her garden and preparing its produce for canning and freezing was important to her. She also had a great love for flowers with numerous African violets throughout her home. She will be dearly missed by her family.
Mildred is survived by three sons, Kenneth and wife Bev of Elk Run Heights, Donald and his wife Joanne of Decorah, Glen and his wife JoAnn of Reinbeck; a daughter, Maxine and husband John of Dumont; sixteen grandchildren, forty eight great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Vern on May 25, 1975, granddaughter Lisa Rae Witt on July 4, 1980, daughter-in-law, Georgiana Witt on July 19, 2004, granddaughter Lori Lee Swomley on April 14, 2006, her parents, brothers, Oscar, Loren, Floyd, LeRoy, Calvin, Wilson, Marvin and sisters, Matilda, Frances, Ella, Arlene and Lydia.
