Mildred Jean Preston, 89, of Eldora, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Valley View Specialty Care in Eldora, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 18, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. Services and burial will be held privately by the family. Mildred was born on March 25, 1926 in Melbourne, Iowa. She was the firstborn child of Fred and Alice (Rodden) Phillips. She graduated from Rhodes High School in the Class of 1944. She was united in marriage to Warren Preston on February 1, 1947 in Melbourne, Iowa. Mildred and Warren farmed in Marshall & Hardin Counties while raising their three children.
Mildred was quite a homemaker, she had a huge garden which she enjoyed maintaining. She also enjoyed canning and freezing and was an amazing cook to her family, corn shellers, hay balers and anyone else who would pop in unexpected. She loved to work on puzzles, crochet and to watch any kind of sports or car races. She loved to pass the time by looking at clouds and feeding the birds, especially cardinals. She could be found working in the fields and doing chores alongside Warren. Mildred's true joy in life came from spending time with her family.
Mildred is survived by her children Freddie (Shelley) Preston of Eldora and Jeannie (Dwight) Schuneman of Eldora; son-in-law Duane Kistler of Osceola; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one on the way; a great-great grandchild on the way; 4 brothers; one sister; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 63 years, Warren and her daughter Joan Kistler.
