Merlin A. Adair, 98, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Monday, March 3, 2014, at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer, IA. He was joined in death by his beloved wife Jeanette on Wednesday, March 5, 2014. Merlin and Jeanette were blessed with 75 years of marriage. A joint funeral service will be held on Monday, March 10, 2014, at 10:30 A.M. at the Reinbeck United Methodist Church in Reinbeck. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 9, 2014, from 4 to 6 P.M. at the Reinbeck United Methodist Church in Reinbeck. A Masonic Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. conducted by Coin Lodge #394 of Reinbeck. Burial will follow funeral services at the Reinbeck Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Merlin was born on January 6, 1916 in Geneseo, Iowa, the son of Harry and Pearl(Taylor) Adair. Merlin was united in marriage to Jeanette Stumberg on July 26, 1938. To this union two children were born, Curtis and Bea. Merlin owned and operated Adair Feed Supply from 1952 -1972. He then went to work for P.C.I managing the Black Hawk County landfill until retirement.
Merlin was a life long member of the United Methodist Church. He was a member of Masonic Temple Coin Lodge #394 and Reinbeck Lion's Club. He served on the Reinbeck City Council. Merlin was a founding father of Parkview Manor and served as Board President. He enjoyed the outdoors – deer hunting, fishing, gardening and golf. Most of all Merlin enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Merlin is survived by daughter, Bea (Dale) Greiner of Reinbeck; grandchildren, Steve (Helen) Adair of Reinbeck, Shelli (Ron) Reab of Hudson, Trevis (Jenn) Adair of Marion, Kim (Jeff) Thesing of Reinbeck, Rita (Mike) Hummel of Conrad and Rodney (Tammy) Greiner of Reinbeck; great-grandchildren; Jeremy (Erica) Thesing, Tara Thesing, Jordan and Tanner Greiner, Sarah(Kyle) Smith, Jacob Hummel, Nicole and Paige Adair, Heidi(Shawn) Murtha, Holli and Hayli Reab, Lauren, Emily and Eli Adair; Great-great grandchildren, Leila and Laken Thesing, Isaac Smith and Harper Murtha.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son Curtis Adair.
