Melvin Shipley, 91, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Saturday, April 16, 2005, at Allen Mmorial Hospital in Waterloo, of natural causes. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at First Methodist Church in Reinbeck, with Pastor David Nolte officiating. Burial will follow at Reinbeck Cemetery in Reinbeck. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 8:00 P.M. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. on Monday at the French Hand Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been establised.
Melvin was born September 26, 1913 in Olney Springs, Colorado, the son of Novie and Della (Wollery) Shipley. On October 12, 1935 he was united in marriage to Irma L. Gould in Lancaster, Missouri. Melvin farmed and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Reinbeck, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife Irma; 3 daughters: Darlene and her husband Bill Eckhart of State Center, Iowa, Marcia and her husband Wayne Fogt of Reinbeck, Iowa, and Joyce Staker of West Des Moines, Iowa; and a son: Larry Shipley of Princeville, Illinois; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-father Noble Briley and a sister: Fern Dukeman.
