Mary Wical, 87, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 18, 2007, at her home. Mary was born August 28, 1920, at Morrison, Iowa, the daughter of Alonzo and Elma (Starr) Cooley. She received her education at the country school near their home. On May 14, 1938, Mary was united in marriage to Joseph Wical in Waterloo, Iowa. They lived in Grundy Center all their married life. Mary worked at JC Penney?s and the Grundy Center Hospital before she started her own daycare that she operated for 25 years then retiring at the age of 75. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center. She loved to cook and bake, Mary did not want any child to go without a birthday cake. At the age of 86, Mary was still canning and freezing fruits and vegetables that she grew in her garden.
She is survived by her daughter Donna Palmer of Grundy Center, Iowa; her son Denny(Eileen)Wical of Colorado; grandchildren, Pam Billerbeck, Kurt(Jennifer)Kruse, Kyle(Kelly) Kruse, Mindy (Gary) Wical-Daub, Chad Wical; great grandchildren Kassie Billerbeck,Chelsee, Reed, Britni Jo,Tevor Kruse, Nick and Jake Daub; siblings, Harry (Jessie) Cooley of Morrison, Iowa, Clara Clair of Los Angeles, California, Miriam Johnson of Minnesota, Zelda (Bill) Minard of Waterloo; sister in-law Plaetus (Harold) Davis Of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Joe; two sisters Doris Nichols, Lula Prescott; three brothers Delmar,Logan and Donald Cooley and one infant brother.
