Mary E. Taylor, 82, of Steamboat Rock, Iowa, died from natural causes on Saturday, June 09, 2007 at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Eldora with Dr. Bob Domokos and Pastor Gordon Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Berlin Cemetery (Jackson Township Cemetery) near Owasa. Visitation is from 5 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.

Mary was born August 29, 1924 in Eldora, Iowa, daughter of William and Ethel (Doud) Allen. She attended the Eldora School System where she graduated with the class of 1942. On February 5, 1943 Mary was united in marriage to Ray Taylor and they made their home near Steamboat Rock. To this union were born four children, Gordon, Laura, Karol, and Jean. Mary was involved as part owner-operator of Karol Ann's Clothing Store in Eldora, with her daughter Karol Ann, from 1975 ? 1989. She was also very active in the First Baptist Church in Eldora singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school and Bible school, and working with the youth group. She also served as president of the Legislative Ladies League of Iowa and the Iowa Senate Wives Organization. She is a member of the Republican Women, and a former member of the Kountry Klub (a rural neighborhood club). Mary was well known for her hospitality and her pie baking. She enjoyed sewing and cross-stitching, and sang at an estimated 200 funerals with her husband, Ray.

Surviving is her husband, Ray; son, Gordon Taylor and his wife Rayna of Port Byron, Illinois; daughters, Laura Hansmann and her husband Paul of Taylorville, Illinois, Karol Rogers and her husband Jack of Eldora, and Jean Mahl and her husband Bob of Anderson, Indiana; brothers, Frank (Wilma) Allen of Charles City and Robert (Karlene) Allen of Norco, California; sisters, Margaret Hanson of Eden Prairie, Minnesota and Ruth Johnson of Eldora; and by 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Arthur Allen; and sister, Lillian Whiting.
