Mary E. Shephard, 96, of Eldora, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Funeral services will be
2:00 P.M., Saturday December 27, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church in Eldora, with Pastor Richard Boatman and Pastor John Gaulke officiating. Burial will follow at the Eldora City Cemetery in Eldora. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until service time on Saturday at the church. A memorial fund has been established.
Mary Elizabeth ((Montgomery) Shephard was born February 18, 1912, the daughter of Leo J. and Grace (Webb) Montgomery, at home on her parent’s farm near Iowa Falls, Iowa. She received her education with the Iowa Falls School District, graduating from Iowa Falls High School. On February 19, 1931, Mary was united in marriage to Harold B. Shephard in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Mary and her husband moved to Eldora to make their home in 1944. While in Eldora, Mary had worked at Piper’s Café, Whink Manufacturing and other businesses in Eldora. Her husband Harold died in 2003, and she continued to make Eldora her home, until September 2008, when she moved to the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls.
Mary was a member of the Eldora United Methodist Church. She was also an excellent seamstress. Mary also loved to clean and take care of her home.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Gaulke and her husband Richard of Iowa Falls, Iowa; her son, Raymond Shephard and his wife Doreen of Denton, Texas; five grandsons; thirteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Varnum of Marshalltown, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold; one daughter, Linda Lee Shephard; two brothers, Wilber and Robert Montgomery; and one sister, Lila O’Neil.
