Mary Goodell

Mary Jean Goodell, 93, of Eldora, Iowa passed away Friday, March 31, 2017 at the Hubbard Care Center in Hubbard, Iowa. She had lovingly been cared for by their entire dedicated staff, along with kind compassion from Iowa River Hospice in her final days. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Eldora, Iowa with Pastor Mark Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at the Eldora City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Eldora. Creps-Abels Funeral Home is caring for Mary and her family.

Mary Jean Allbee, daughter of Benjamin and Grace (Rubendall) Allbee was born July 8, 1923 in Eldora, Iowa. She received her education from the Eldora Community Schools. On September 14, 1941 she married Duane Goodell in Eldora, Iowa. Mary was a homemaker, mother and also a cook for the Eldora Community Schools for 22 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary both in Eldora. Mary enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, reading, being outside and going on walks.

Survivors include her son, David (Lori) Goodell of Williamsburg, IA; daughters, Linda Goodell of Queensland, Australia, Kathy (Gale) Bengtson of Iowa Falls, IA; grandchildren, Nikki Goodell and Jill Harryman both of Des Moines, IA, Dakotah Goodell of North Liberty, IA, Nicholas Goodell of Williamsburg, IA, Wendy (Troy) Hemme and Jonathan (Kelsey) Bengtson both of Minneapolis, MN, Jared Bengtson of Iowa Falls, IA; 8 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Dorlene Allbee of West Union, IA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Duane; son, Douglas Goodell; sister, Mildred Alhovsky; brothers, Ralph (Buster), Donald, Dale and Kenneth Allbee.

Memorials may be given in memory of Mary to either the First Baptist Church in Eldora, Hope Lodge of Iowa City, caring for cancer patients and their caregivers, or the Alzheimer's Association.
