Mary Lou Bowen, 97, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Reinbeck, of natural causes.
Mary Lou Roberts Bowen was born January 22, 1911 near Ashland, Wisconsin, the sixth child and third daughter of Everett M. and Ina McWhirter Roberts. The family later moved to the Reinbeck area and Mary Lou attended various country schools and was a graduate of Reinbeck High School Class of 1929. She was a graduated of Gates Business College in Waterloo and returned to Reinbeck to work in the office of Wilson & Company. On July 1, 1934 she married Everett C. Bowen. They moved to Oelwein, Iowa, where their children were born, and then to the Waterloo area and then to Morrison. Everett was employed by the Morrison Co-op and they owned and operated the Morrison Grocery for a number of years. After retiring, the sold their home in Morrison and moved to Reinbeck. After Everett?s death Mary Lou became a resident of Parkview Manor.
Mary Lou was a member of the Reinbeck Presbyterian Church. She had a life-long love of reading and enjoyed growing flowers and visiting with her family and friends.
Mary Lou is survived by her daughter Patricia L. Lau (David) of Donnellson, Iowa and her son Dale E. Bowen (Edna) of Grand Marais, Minnesota, three grandchildren Jeffrey D. Lau (Linda) of Warrenton Virginia, Debra A. Newman (Barry) of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Rachael L. Robinett (Tom) of Reinbeck, Iowa. Also surviving are six great grandchildren Leslie Lau, Matthew, Kelsey and Jordan Newman and Daniel and Waverly Robinett. She also leaves her sister Ruth Kray of Newhall, Iowa, and her brother Russell Roberts of Reinbeck, Iowa, a sister ? in ? law Katherine Dew of Reinbeck, Iowa and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter Marilyn in infancy, a grandson, her parents, four brothers Leland, Kenneth, David and Allen Roberts, three sisters Jean Roberts, Carol Fleming and Marjorie Roberts.
