Mary Beach

November 19, 1918 — September 4, 2013

Mary May Waldo Beach, 94, of Eldora, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at the Valley View Nursing Home and Rehab Center in Eldora while under Care Initiatives Hospice. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 7th at 10:30 A.M. at the Eldora United Methodist Church with the Rev. Vicki Reece officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

Mary was born on November 19, 1918 in New Providence, Iowa, the daughter of Barney & Safrona (Adams) Chamness. She attended school in New Providence and graduated with the class of 1936. On April 26, 1938, Mary was united in marriage to Lowell Waldo. Lowell and Mary welcomed son Steven into their family. The couple farmed east of town near Grundy Center from 1949 until 1977. Lowell preceded Mary in death on November 28, 1988. Mary later met Clarence Beach and the two were married in September of 1992. He passed away the following September.

She was a member of the Eldora United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included quilting, golfing, hand work and counted cross stitching.

Mary is survived by her son Steven (wife Tana Johnson) Waldo of Marshalltown, IA; granddaughter Shannon Carroll of Marshalltown; great-grandsons, Baylee Waldo and Bradyn & Colton Carroll; step-daughters Carmen Heyer of Lake Ozark, MO & Karen Chitty of Zearing, IA; sister-in-law Doris Chamness; nieces Lavonne Chamness of Cedar Rapids, IA & Shirley Lester of Omaha, NE and nephews Tom Brown of Des Moines, IA & Mike Chamness of Boston, MA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Lowell Waldo & Clarence Beach; step-daughter Nina Mae Schaa.
