Marvin married Alice M. Stickfort on April 5, 1949 at the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church parsonage. Being born and raised on the farm, Marvin was always a farmer at heart. Marvin continued to work on a seasonal basis for Michael Freed.

Marvin enjoyed reading, chopping wood for the wood stove, going to Mike's for morning coffee with his friends. A favorite memory of Marvin and Alice would be their 50th wedding anniversary where they were surprised with a performance by the Interfaith Men's Chorus who Marvin and Alice followed and attended many concerts.
