Marvin was born on May 12, 1926, in Creighton, Nebraska, to his parents Julius & Hulda (Stutheit) Haverkamp. Marvin grew up in Nebraska and in 1940, his family moved to Iowa, living in Sumner where they had their farm operation.

On April 11, 1948, Marvin was united in marriage to Marlys Hoppenworth. Together, the couple fostered and adopted 5 children, a true selfless act of love. In the 1970’s, Marvin relocated his family to Holland for several years, and then made their home in Grundy Center.

For many years, Marvin worked as a self-made farmer and then later worked for American Cyanamide (FS). For the last 30 + working years, Marvin was a truck driver with both semis and straight trucks, in which he hauled livestock and grain. He retired from trucking.

Marvin was a longtime member of the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center, where he taught Sunday School, a position he loved very much. In his free time, he enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes; especially football and basketball and he was an avid Grundy Center Spartans fan! But above all, Marvin was a family man, spending every moment he had with his wife, children, grandchildren and even great and great-great grandchildren. Although he lived a long and prosperous life, he will be dearly missed by those he leaves behind.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Marlys of Grundy Center; children Tim (Shirley) Haverkamp of Tulsa, OK, Lisa (Brent) Ackart of Cornville, AZ and Steve Haverkamp of Grundy Center; 11 grandchildren and many great and great-great-grandchildren; sisters Esther Meier of Bella Vista, Arkansas and Elaine Meihost of Waterloo; a host of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He rejoins in Heaven his parents; stepmother Gertrude; daughter Sharon Orr and son Roger Portwine; grandson Tracy Brase; brothers Elmer, Richard, LaVerne, Erwin and Harold Haverkamp, whom he missed very much when they passed, Marvin being the last surviving brother.
