Marvin O. Hagen, 92, of Eldora, Iowa died Sunday, July 19, 2015, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2015, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora with Pastor David Splett officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Walter-Sayer Post #182 and V.F.W. Roll-Harless Post #3974 of Eldora. A visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.
Marvin Orlean Hagen, son of Kristen "Christ" and Bertha Gurine Thorson Hagen, was born July 23, 1922 in Radcliffe, Iowa. He received his education and graduated from Shell Rock High School in 1942. On August 20, 1944, Marvin enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during WWII. He was stationed in Rhineland and Central Europe where he was a member of the Third Army, 94th Division, 376th Infantry Regiment. He received the good conduct medal, combat infantry badge, presidential unit citation, two battle stars and the victory ribbon. He was honorably discharged on July 4, 1946. On July 20, 1952, Marvin Married Louise Anna Johannes at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waverly, Iowa. The couple resided briefly in Waverly before moving to Eldora in 1955. Marvin worked for the Rawleigh Company as a traveling salesman, where he was known by his customers as the "Rawleigh Dealer". Following his retirement from the Rawleigh Company, he worked briefly for the McNess Company and Rada Manufacturing, where he sold knives and other kitchen utensils. Marvin enjoyed meeting people and was very relational and personable. He truly loved visiting with people and making lifelong friends. He was a member of the Lutheran Laymens League, and he served as secretary of the Board of Directors for the Iowa District East Camp during its early years of formation.
Survivors include his son, M. Allen (Stephanie) Hagen of Puyallup, WA; granddaughters, Rachel (Scott) Morton of Prosser, WA; Rebekah Hagen of Sumner, WA; Sarah (Brian) Dahl of Lake Tapps, WA; three great granddaughters, Gracie, Danica and Chloe Morton.
In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his loving wife, Louise, who died on March 10, 2008.
