Marvel Lou French, 74, of Humboldt, IA formerly of Reinbeck, IA, died Thursday May 5, 2005, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, IA, from natural causes. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at the First Presbyterian Church in Reinbeck, IA, with Pastor Randy McGrady-Beach officiating. Visitation will be Monday, May 9, 2005, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM with family present 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck. There will also be a visitation 1 hour prior to the funeral service at the Church. There will be a visitation at the Mason Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt at 3:00 PM and a prayer service to follow at 3:30 PM on Tuesday. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery in Humboldt, IA. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Marvel was born August 26, 1930 in Humboldt County, IA. She is the daughter of John P. and Julia (Olson) Sarsgard. She was educated in the Dakota City and Humboldt school systems graduating from the Humboldt High School in 1949. In October 1949 she was united in marriage to William Kirchhoff in Humboldt, IA, they later divorced. She lived in Humboldt until 1967 when she moved to Marshalltown, IA. On December 28, 1968 she was united in marriage to Ward French in Reinbeck, IA. The couple owned and operated the French Funeral Home in Reinbeck for many years. Ward passed away August 25, 2003. In December 2004 she went back to Humboldt to live. As a young woman she worked for Hulls Ready to Wear in Humboldt. Marvel has worked for the American Heart Association, and as an Avon Representative. Marvel was very active member of the Republican Women, and an Election Pollworker. She helped with the American Heart Assn. and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the First Presbyterian Church, the Oakleaf Country Club, numerous bridge clubs, the Elklets, a former 4-H leader and taught tailoring. She was a member of the P.E.O. and the American Legion Auxillary. Marvel loved ceramics, sewing, needlework, travelling, bridge games, golf and shopping.
Survivors include 2 step sons: Phillip and wife Chris French of Phoenix, AZ, and Bruce French and his wife Eileen Barnett of Van Nuys, CA; 2 step grandchildren: Claire Evangelista and Paula French; 4 step great grandchildren: Alexandre, Christian, Ethan, and Noah; 2 sisters: Esther Ruble of Algona, IA, and Verla and her husband Alvin Ennen of Gilmore City, IA; nieces and nephews: John Sarsgard, Jim Sarsgard, John and wife Margaret Ruble and their children Maurice, Leslie, and her son Nolan, Julie and husband Harlan Weydert and their children Chris and his wife Amber, Jenny, Jamie and Corey, Bruce Ennen and his wife Leigh and their children, Brooke, and Major, Bart Ennen and his daughter Sarah, and Betsy Mortensen and her husband Todd and their daughter Morgan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ward on August. 25, 2003, and a brother Dale Sarsgard.
