Martin H. Rieks, 93, of Eldora died from natural causes on Friday, October 24, 2008 at the Stratford Care Center in Stratford, Iowa. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at Northlawn Memory Gardens in Iowa Falls with Pastor David Splett of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora officiating. Military honors will be provided by Walter-Sayer Post 182 of the American Legion and Roll-Harless Post 3974 of the VFW. Memorials may be directed to Dorothy’s Senior Center in Eldora.
Martin was born November 5, 1914 in Hubbard, Iowa, son of Herman and Hannah (Muecke) Rieks. He was married to Marian Doty in Northwood, IA and after her death in 1984 Martin was united in marriage to Lucille Zacharia. Martin lived in the New Providence and Eldora area the majority of his adult life and worked for Lawn Hill Coop of New Providence, Harrison Furniture Store of Union, and Creps Furniture Store and Funeral Home of Eldora. He was a WWII Veteran serving from 1942 to 1946 with the U.S. Army, and a member of Walter-Sayer Post 182 of the American Legion. Martin was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora and enjoyed gardening and dancing.
He is survived by sisters, Dorothy Puttkamer of Iowa Falls and Juliet (Henry) Grabemann of Chicago, and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wives, Marian and Lucille; brothers, Ewald and Harold; and by a sister, Florence Kennedy.
