Marlys Leona Siemens, age 87, of Grundy Center, passed away Friday evening, April 5, 2013 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at the Salem Church of Lincoln, with Rev. Barbara Muhs officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in rural Gladbrook. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2013 at French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Marlys was born on May 14, 1925, on a farm west of Lincoln, to Dave and Pauline Paustian Wrage. She attended the Lincoln No. 4 country school. On February 1, 1944, she was united in marriage to Arnold Siemens in Waterloo. They farmed for 25 years in the Traer area and Marlys worked at Westbrook Acres Nursing Home in Gladbrook for 13 years. They later moved to Lincoln where they were able to celebrate 52 years of marriage, before Arnie passed away in 1996. Marlys continued to live in Lincoln until she entered the Long Term Care at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in 2012.
Marlys was a member of the Salem Church of Lincoln. She participated in the Living Branches Guild and was a member of the Lincoln Auxiliary. Marlys enjoyed her family, gardening and her flowers.
She is survived by her sons, Steve (Sandy) of Traer; Stan (Marilee) of Buffalo Center, Jim (Jane) of Marshalltown and Dirk (Wanda) of Lincoln; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers, Lorna Bieber, Lyle Wrage, Marcella Goos, LaRue Brandemuehl, Leon Wrage and Roger Wrage. She will also be greatly missed by many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Arnie; brother Arlo and sister Arvella Rogers.
