Marlyn James Pruis, 77, of Holland, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center, Iowa while under the care of Iowa Hospice. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 1:30 pm at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, just west of Fern, IA. Burial will follow funeral services at the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 12, 2010, from 2 to 4 pm at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Marlyn was born on May 30, 1933, in rural Holland, Iowa, the son of Eilert and Trientje (Meester) Pruis. He grew up in rural Grundy County, and attended country school. On February 18, 1958, Marlyn married Lourine Edna Syhlman at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church. He took over the family farm in 1958 when his father passed away and farmed until he retired in 1997. Marlyn was a member of the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lourine of Holland; a daughter, Laurie (Randy) Murra of Wellsburg; a son, Tony (JoEllen) Pruis of Waterloo; 4 grandsons, Jerod (Laci) Murra, Trent (Lisa Schipper) Murra, Jesse Murra and Zachary Pruis; one great grandson Bentley Murra: one sister Henrietta Pruis of Grundy Center two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Adelmond of Conrad and Wilma Adelmond of Gladbrook and one brother in law, Melvin Valentine of Beaman
Marlyn was preceded in death by on son, Wendall Mark, his parents; two infant brothers, two sisters, Gertie and Maerka Pruis; three sisters-in-law Tena Benning, Suzie Syhlman, Vernice Valentine and four brothers-in-law, Albert Benning, Fred Syhlman, Jake Adelmund and George Adelmund
