Marlyn James Eilers, 80, of Grundy Center, Iowa; passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2011 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center, Iowa. Funeral service and burial will be held privately by the family.
Marlyn was born February 12, 1931 in the Eldora Hospital. He was the son of Joe and Pearl (Ruter) Eilers. In 1952 he was united in marriage to Ruth Weseman in the Bethany Presbyterian Church. Marlyn and Ruth farmed in Black Hawk and Hardin counties. Marlyn also was employed as a road patrolman for Grundy County for over 20 years. He truly loved to spend time with his friends and family.
He is survived by his children, Kathleen Eilers of Grundy Center, Marilyn (Dave) Phillis of Waterloo and Ron Eilers of Grundy Center; grandsons Jeremy (Jessica) Eilers of Reinbeck and Cory Phillis of Waterloo; a great-grandson, Drew Eilers of Reinbeck; sisters, Gladys Bowers of Dike, Genevieve Venenga of Grundy Center, Adele Pruin of Holland and Joyce (Norman) VanDeest of Grundy Center; brothers Wayne (Judy) of Holland and Kenny (Linda) of Eldora; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Marlyn was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth, sister June Rhoads and infant brother Claus; brother-in-laws, Howard Bowers, Elgin Venenga, Bert Pruin and Dusty Rhoads.
