Marjorie was born August 24, 1922, in Nokomis, Saskatchewan, Canada, daughter of Charles A. and Tryphosa (Rorabaugh) Svendsen. She enjoyed Canada as a child and then moved with her family to the New Providence, Iowa area in 1932. She graduated from the New Providence High School in 1941. On September 16, 1945, Marjorie was united in marriage to Wendell Robert Sayer and to this union were born children Philip, Brenda, and Janet. Marjorie and Wendell also added to the family a son, Chuck Emblen. Over the years many foster children also became a part of their family. Wendell departed this life in March of 1984. Marjorie was married to Dale Schwarck on December 26, 1987. Devoted, always by her side, Dale survives Marjorie.
Marjorie loved music and freely shared her talents with many; teaching piano and voice, serving as an organist, soloist, pianist, and as an accomplished whistler. Her involvement with young people involved serving as accompanist for vocal and instrumental contestants at local schools, leading Junior Choir and Choir at New Providence High, Youth Leader at New Providence Church, and teaching Sunday school. Marjorie also served as director at Dorothy's Senior Center in Eldora. She was a very active member of the Honey Creek New Providence Friends Church, the Chapel Cemetery Society, and a former member of the Eldora American Legion Auxiliary. She also enjoyed gardening and bird watching.
She is survived by her husband, Dale; children, Philip (Jan) Sayer of Nevada, Brenda (Bob) Crabb of New Providence, Janet Aswegan of Wabash, Indiana, and Chuck Emblen of Johnston; grandchildren, Angie Sayer (Wes Moler), Nikki (Nick) Brubaker, Neena (Roger) Bentley, Carrie (Chad) Price, and Jake Emblen; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Emely, Lloyd, Zoe, Layne, Josey, Jessica, Daria, and TJ; step-children, Rae Jean (Roger) of Albert City, Claudia (Lynn) of Lansing, Gaylene (Roger) of Ackley, and Marty (Pam) of Eldora; step-great-grandchildren, Kris (Paul), Dan, Jordan, and Jared. Preceding her in death was her first husband, Wendell; her parents, brother and sister-in-law, Charles Svendsen Jr. and Beatrice; and grandson, Steve Sayer.
Marjorie had a deep love of God, family, her church family, friends and community, music, and life. She was generous of herself to a fault. We rejoice for her now!
