Marjorie Emily Slessor Diedrick, 87, of Hudson, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Unity Point Health, Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Saint John's Lutheran Church in Reinbeck. Burial will immediately follow the funeral service at Reinbeck Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Marjorie was born on January 26, 1929 in rural Hudson, Iowa to her parents Ralph and Rose (Groth) Slessor. Marjorie started the first grade in 1934 at Hudson Consolidated School. She graduated from Hudson High School on May 22, 1946. She was a skilled cornet player. She played a cornet solo, "The Last Chord" the night of her graduation. She also played the accordion. Marjorie was united in marriage to Victor Diedrick on April 30, 1961 at Saint John's Lutheran Church in Reinbeck; together they welcomed their son Paul into their family on January 9, 1964.
Marjorie became a member of Saint John's Lutheran Church in November of 1959. She and Victor loved and served their church together. Marjorie had an amazing work ethic and was a caretaker to many family members. Her generosity of spirit extended to her involvement with the Red Cross, and donating blood. In her free time she enjoyed gardening and was an excellent cook; however her true joy in life came from being a good mother to her son Paul.
Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Victor; and her son Paul.
