Marian F. Tjaden, 88, of Eldora, died from natural causes on Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 28 at the Eldora United Methodist Church with Pastor Douglas Harding officiating. Burial will follow in the Eldora City Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 pm to 7 pm on Friday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.
Marian was born September 16, 1917 in Dike, Iowa, daughter of Theodore and Lula (Lundy) Schaa. She attended school in Dike and Eldora and graduated from Eldora High School. Following graduation she attended business school in Chillicothe, Missouri. In July of 1941 she was married to Jurgen Tjaden. They had three children, Diane, Tim, and Susan.
She was a member of the Eldora United Methodist Church where she served as treasure for many years, was involved with the United Methodist Women, and served on several committees. She was involved with volunteer groups, bridge clubs, and club 16.
Surviving are her children, Diane Thompson of Clear Lake, Tim Tjaden of Eldora, and Susan (Dick) Breed of Marshalltown; grandchildren, Andy Tjaden, and Brad and Aggie Thompson; sisters Velma Snapp of Cedar Falls and Marjorie (Art) Kaufman of Waukesha, Wisconsin; brothers, Howard (Nina) Schaa of Waterloo and Don (Gloria) Schaa of Eldora; and by several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was a son-in-law, Robert Thompson; sisters, Minnie Arnold and Lucille Kumrow; and brothers, Chris and Paul Schaa.
