Margie Jurchen

August 18, 1936 — December 4, 2009

Margie Ann Jurchen, 73, of Wellsburg, Iowa died from natural causes on Friday, December 4, 2009 at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center in Marshalltown, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, December 8 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Wellsburg, with Pastor Gary Burkhalter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 5 pm to 8 pm on Monday at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg. Memorial contributions may be directed to Margie’s family and will be used for Parkinson’s research.




Margie Ann Winkowitsch Jurchen was born August 18, 1936 in rural Wellsburg, daughter of Anton and Anna (Olthoff) Venenga. She attended country school Colfax #4 through the 8 th grade, transferring to Wellsburg High School in 1951 and graduating with the class of 1955. She then attended Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls to become a teacher. She was united in marriage to Duane Winkowitsch on December 11, 1957 and to this union was born a son, Glenn Eldon. Margie and Duane later separated. On August 16, 1980 Margie was united in marriage to Arthur Jurchen and they spent 29 years together going to football and basketball games, and just having fun.




She worked at several small jobs in Wellsburg until gaining employment with the Grundy Memorial Hospital where she worked until 1971. Margie then worked for Mapco Gas Company in Eldora until 1986 and then for Snittjer Grain Company in Wellsburg, retiring in 2001. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the UNI Scholarship Club. She enjoyed watching basketball, football, and track and field, and during Glenn’s high school years cheering him on while he played basketball. She also attended many sporting events at the McCloud Center to watch UNI.




She is survived by her husband, Art; son, Glenn Winkowitsch and his wife Sara of Wellsburg; grandchildren, Dana Winkowitsch of North Liberty and her fiancé Danny Stafford, and Adam Winkowitsch of Cresco; sister, Arvilla Gerloff of New Hartford; and by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bernard and Harvey Venenga; sister, Helen Davis; and an infant brother.
