Margaret Lucile Ohrt, 91, of Reinbeck, passed away on March 9, 2019, at Parkview Manor in Reinbeck. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 13, from 5-7 PM at French-Hand Chapel in Reinbeck. A Funeral Service will follow on Thursday, March 14, at 10:30 AM at Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Reinbeck with Reverend Joel Love officiating. Visitation will resume from the evening prior at 9:30 AM at the church. Interment will be held at Reinbeck City Cemetery. Margaret Lucile Ohrt was born on December 12, 1927, in Dike, IA, to her parents Hans and Edel (Andersen) Johnson. She attended Dike High School graduating with the class of 1945, later attending Gates Business College in Waterloo. Margaret worked at Farmers Co-op in Dike briefly after graduating. She was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Ohrt on September 2, 1948, at Fredsville Lutheran Church in rural Dike. Margaret and Dick had three sons Randall, Philip, and Brad. She worked part time in the 60’s for the U.S. Census Bureau but most of her working life was spent alongside Dick on the farm. Margaret embraced being a “farm wife” and juggled all the chores and tasks that came her way along with tending to the house and caring for the children.
Margaret enjoyed gardening and canning the fruits and vegetables she worked tirelessly over. She also took pride in caring for her extensive flower gardens. Margaret and Dick enjoyed square dancing and traveling to many destinations, wintering in Florida for 22 years. She was a member of The Order of The Eastern Star, PEO, American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, Oak Leaf Country Club, and the Union Congregational United Church of Christ
Margaret is survived by her son Brad (Lynn) Ohrt of Reinbeck; daughters-in-law Cynthia Ohrt of Cedar Rapids and Janice Ohrt of Reinbeck;8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dick, sons Randall and Philip, great-grandson Ian Felton, and her brothers and sisters.
