Mardell Verona Mulford, 76, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died of natural causes, November 15, 2005 at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Saturday, November 19, 2005, at American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center, with Pastor David Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Visitation will be held Friday, November 18, 2005, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with family present to greet friends and relatives, at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center.
Mardell was born February 27, 1929, in Westgate, Iowa, daughter of Carl and Lulu (Nolting) Wedemeier. She graduated from Oran High School in 1948. On August 22, 1948 she was united in marriage to Dale Mulford at St. John's Lutheran Church in Denver, Iowa. The couple lived in Waterloo from 1948 until Dale took a job teaching in LeGrand in 1950. The couple then moved to Geneva in 1954 and stayed there until 1956 when they moved to Sheffield. They moved to Grundy Center in 1962. Mardell entered the Grundy Care Center in 2000. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church, where she was active in church circles. She was a member of the Grundy Center Women's Club and a former member of the Friendship, Service and Study Club in Sheffield.
She is survived by her four children, Gary and his wife Shirley Mulford of Rochester, Minnesota; Pam and her husband Gordon McDowell of Grundy Center, Iowa; Randy and his wife Lori Mulford of Iowa Falls, Iowa; and Darcy and his wife Donna Mulford of Grayslake, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her husband: Dale C. Mulford; parents: Carl and Lulu Wedemeier; 7 brothers: Wilbert, Floyd, Ralph, Howard, Donald, Virgil, and Vernon Wedemeier; 2 sisters: Leona Staack and Darleth Wedemeier; an infant brother: Duane; and an infant sister: Florine.
