Marcia Meyers La Morte, a resident of Buffalo since 1951, died in her home after battling cancer.
Marcia grew up in the small town of Grundy Center, Iowa in 1925. She was an alumna of Stephens College, MO, class of 1945 and the University of Iowa, class of 1947. Her graduate work took her to Teachers College, Columbia University where she received a Masters in Student Personnel Administration. As an administrator and counselor, Mrs. La Morte worked at Colorado College, Fireman's Fund Insurance in New York City, SUC at Buffalo and D'Youville College in Buffalo, NY.
An active member of Gamma Phi Beta, the Buffalo chapter of Pan Hellenic and the Buffalo State College Association of Women she also played the piano, worked to promote children's concerts by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and was an avid bridge player. She was very pleased to be a member of Buffalo's Twentieth Century Club where she enjoyed serving on committees and participating in activities.
She was also an active member of the Kenmore United Methodist Church since 1970. With her husband, Charles, she travelled throughout Europe and Canada before his death in 2006.
Marcia never stopped learning and staying informed about the world. She is survived by her daughter, Andrea Schaffer (David), her granddaughter Elizabeth Schaffer and her grandson Robert Schaffer. Donations can be made to Buffalo Hospice in lieu of flowers.
