Mae Etta Wheat Zimmermann, 95, of Vinton, formerly of Eldora, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2010 at the Virginia Gay Hospital Acute Care Center in Vinton, IA. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 5
th
, 10:30 A.M. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora with Pastor David Splett officiating. Burial will follow funeral services at the Eldora City Cemetery in Eldora. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 4
th
from 4 to 7 P.M. at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.
Mae Etta was born September 23, 1914 in McIntire, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Daisy R. (Goff) Wheat. She grew up in Fort Dodge, Iowa, graduating from Fort Dodge High School in 1932. She met Rev. John C. Zimmermann and the two were united in marriage on June 5, 1938 in Fort Dodge. Mae Etta and John later welcomed five children. The couple relocated to Wheaton, MN, where John was a Pastor at a local church for five years. Mae Etta and John were transferred to another church and the family settled in the community of Montevideo, MN. In 1948, the family moved to Eldora, with an interim of 8 years in Marion, Iowa. Mae Etta and John moved to Vinton, Iowa in 2002, and have remained there ever since.
Wherever she has been, she has been active in many organizations and has always shown great love and care for people. As a Pastor’s wife, she provided great support for her husband’s ministry and for the people in their congregations. Most importantly, she was a loving, caring mother to her children and a loving, caring grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had many hobbies, working with crafts, reading, painting, but most importantly, spending time with her family.
Mae Etta is survived by her husband Rev. John C. Zimmermann of Vinton; children Ann Thompson of Eldridge, IA, Pamela (Curt) Peters of New Albany, IN, Rev. Bruce (Mary) Zimmermann of Wellsburg, Rev. Tim (Carol) Zimmermann of Iowa City, IA and Rev. Fred (Carol) Zimmermann of Shawano, WI; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; brother Don Wheat of Omaha, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Daisy Wheat; 2 brothers Marian and Arthur Wheat.
