Mabel M. Woods, 91, of Steamboat Rock, Iowa, died from natural causes Sunday, March 13, 2005, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls, Iowa.
Mabel was born March 6, 1914 in Rural Eldora, the daughter of Benjamin Carl and Lizzie Martha (Massow) King. In 1932 Mabel graduated from Owasa High School where she enjoyed playing on the basketball team. She was married three times; first to Michael J. Leis who died in 1961, to Laurel Mossman who died in 1967, and then to Bill Woods who she later divorced. Mabel was a homemaker and was also caretaker for her mother from 1949-1974 and for her sister, Mary, for several years. Mabel was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, was an excellent cook, and enjoyed gardening and doing yard work.
Mabel is survived by one brother, Carl (Roberta) King of Eldora, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Oleta King of Hampton, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husbands, Micheal and Laurel; two brothers, George and Leland King; and one sister, Mary Moon.
