Lyle, and his twin sister Lila, were born on May 23, 1932 to Moses and Clara Clouse in Minot, North Dakota. Lyle attended primary school in Norwich, ND and graduated from Dakota Lutheran High School in Minot in 1950. While attending Dakota Lutheran, Lyle met his future wife, Eunice Nelson. After graduation, Lyle joined the United States Air Force. Lyle and Eunice were married on June 28, 1953 and began their family in Anchorage Alaska. Over the following 17 years, Lyle and Eunice traveled extensively with the Air Force and were blessed with eight children including Timothy Lyle, Rebecca Lynn, Linda Jean, Deborah Lee, Elizabeth LaVonne, Jennifer Lenore, Phillip Carl, and Margo Leanne.

Lyle led a distinguished career in the Air Force, receiving numerous awards and commendations, earning the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Between 1968 and 1969 Lyle served in Vietnam. He sent home weekly audio recordings to his young family. His calm voice reassured his family, despite the background sounds of missile fire and explosions.

After Lyle's retirement in 1971, the family settled in Alexander, ND where Lyle established a successful heavy equipment business. Lyle and Eunice worked hard to provide a happy and secure home for their children.

In 1981 Lyle and Eunice were divorced and Lyle moved to Albany, Missouri where he continued to work as a heavy equipment operator. In 1982 Margo moved to Albany to live with her father and remained with him until she graduated from high school. In 1986 Lyle met Judy Chenoweth with whom he maintained a close relationship for approximately 20 years.

In 1992, Lyle returned to North Dakota and bought a cabin in Woodland Resort on Devils Lake. For the next 18 years Lyle served as the official Woodland Resort campground host/handyman/all around problem solver and go-to guy. Lyle thoroughly enjoyed his life at Woodland Resort and established many close and lasting friendships with the owners, Kyle and Karin, as well as countless resort employees and guests. Lyle always had a boat for fishing, skiing, or tubing and he was happiest when his children and grandchildren were at the resort having fun. It was his dream to leave his cabin to his kids, to enjoy after he was gone and with the help of Eunice, his dream came true.

Lyle was preceded in death by his infant daughter Debbie and his parents Moses and Clara Clouse.

Lyle is survived by: Eunice (Clouse) Sanders and their children: Timothy Clouse of Fort Collins, CO, Rebecca (David) Hamilton of Iowa City, IA, Linda Cryderman of Williston, ND, Elizabeth (John) Berning of Iowa City, IA, Jennifer Longtine of Devils Lake, ND, Phillip (Michelle) Clouse of Devils Lake, ND and Margo (Mike) Dierdorff of Grundy Center, IA.
