Lorraine Kathryn Hess, 87, of Grundy Center went home to be with Her Lord, Sunday, November 5, 2006, at the home of her daughter in Reinbeck, Iowa.
Lorraine was born April 5, 1919 in Clay Township in Hardin County, IA to Leonard Allen and Mary Delilah. (Huffman) Taylor. She grew up on a farm in Hardin County, IA. She graduated from Steamboat Rock High School in 1936. After graduation she continued her education at the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA receiving her teaching degree. She taught school for several years at Meservey, rural Owasa and Steamboat Rock, IA.
On August 18, 1945 Lorraine married Vail H. Hess at her parent?s home. They celebrated 61 years of marriage this past August. She spent all her life with Vail on their farm in Grundy County. She committed her life to Jesus Christ at the age of 10. This commitment was central to her life after that.
Lorraine was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eldora, IA where she and her family attended faithfully for many years. She taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She has been a member of the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center, IA for several years. She was a very faithful member and loved attending services, women?s group, her Christian friends and Bible studies. She had the joy of knowing her children and grandchildren are Christians and will spend eternity with Him someday. Lorraine was a very caring, loving kind person putting others before herself. She loved Her Lord and her purpose in life was to serve Him. Her life was an example of Christ to her family and others that knew her.
She also had been involved for several years with the Grundy County Farm Bureau and Grundy County Republican Party.
Survivors include her husband, Vail and their four children: Rebecca (Cork) Peterson of Reinbeck, IA; Patricia Bakker; Douglas Hess of Pueblo, CO; and Judith Hess. Also two grandsons: Todd (Sandra) Peterson of Waterloo, IA and Robert (Heather) Bakker of Waukee, IA. Three great-grandchildren: Katelyn Bakker and Vanessa and Caleb Peterson. Also surviving is a brother, Ray (Mary) Taylor of Steamboat Rock, IA and an uncle, Jack (Waneva) Huffman of Iowa Falls, IA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Mary Taylor.
