Lola Whitcome

Lola Marie Whitcome, 80, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died August 8, 2014, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, Grundy Center or to the family. On
Lola Marie was born in Burchinal, Iowa, on March 30, 1934, the daughter of Loyd and Eula (Hartman) Bartlett. She grew up in the Mason City area attending school and graduating from Mason City High School. After graduation she attended and graduated from Mason City Junior College in Mason City, Iowa.
Lola married Roger Whitcome on August 1, 1954, at the Methodist Church in McIntire, Iowa. Lola taught school for a few years before becoming a full time mother and housewife.
Lola was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center, where she served on numerous committees. She was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star and lifelong member of the Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, reading, restoring antique furniture, collecting and making doll houses. She was a follower of her grandchildren's activities, Waverly- Shell Rock sports especially wrestling, baseball and football and her granddaughter's piano and dance recitals. Most of all Lola enjoyed spending time with family and friends especially her grandchildren.
Lola is survived by her son Scott Whitcome, of Waverly, IA; son Michael Whitcome and wife, Teresa, of Mantorville, MN; grandchildren: Eric (Amber) Whitcome, Clint(Stephanie) both of Waverly and Autumn (Evan) Timm of Rochester, MN; great grandchildren; Lincoln, Everlee, Weston, Kinley Whitcome, Everett Timm and Kaylee Luhman: sister Bonnie Koenings of Lake City, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lola was preceded in death by her parents; husband Roger; daughter-in-law Laurel Whitcome and sister Nancy Radke.
