Lois I. Bern, 86, of Reinbeck, Iowa died Friday, July 24, 2015 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Reinbeck, with Rev. Mike Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at the Reinbeck Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5-7p.m. on Tuesday July 28, 2015 at the French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck.
Lois Irene McGowan, daughter of James and Matilda Claussen McGowan was born January 4, 1929 in rural Tama County. She received her education and graduated from Traer High School in 1948. On April 15, 1949, she married Bert Bern at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple resided in Reinbeck from 1949 until 1999 when they moved to Amana, Iowa. In 2003, Lois moved back to Reinbeck. Lois worked at the Reinbeck Bakery and the Reinbeck Dry Cleaner in her earlier years, but her main vocation was as a homemaker. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, American Legion Auxiliary and was a former Reinbeck library board member. Lois enjoyed sewing, reading and her trips to the casino.
Survivors include her sons, Bob (Pam) Bern of Amana; Larry (Tonya) Bern also of Amana; daughters, Karla (Matt) Paige of Bondurant; Rhonda Palmer; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband Bert, she was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Feryn and Dorothy; and her brother, Arlo McGowan.
