Lois M. Balvanz, 97, of Eldora, Iowa died on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora. Funeral services will be at 1:30pm on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora with Pastor David Splett officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora is in charge of the arrangements. Lois was born June 21, 1914 in Whitten, Iowa, daughter of Jacob and Martha (Walton) Howell. She was raised in Keister, Minnesota returning to Iowa in 1922 then graduated from Union High School in 1933. On November 28, 1937 Lois was united in marriage to Ernest Balvanz at his parent's home south of Eldora. They made their home in and around Eldora and in 1964 moved into the town of Eldora. Lois was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora and enjoyed crafts, sewing, crocheting, knitting and reading. She also volunteered at Dorothy's Senior Center for over 15 years and was proud to be a member of Eldora Rotary's 75 Year Club being recognized for being a 75 year resident of Hardin County.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Barbara Balvanz of San Jose, California; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Glee) Balvanz and Steven (Maureen) Balvanz; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Jillian, Abigail, Jeffrey, Zachary, Titus, Gorden and Grant; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ernest in 1991; son, Robert Balvanz; an infant daughter, Joyce; sister, Lucille Williams; and brother, Charles Howell
