Lloyd Draper

March 16, 1936 — June 2, 2020

Lloyd E. Draper, 84, of rural Grundy County, passed away from complications of Parkinson’s disease on the evening of Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at OakView Nursing Home in Conrad.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to protect the health and safety of all, services are currently being limited as required by state and local authorities and the CDC.  Private graveside services will be held at the Sheller cemetery where Lloyd will be laid to rest.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Lloyd’s name to his family.  For further information please visit www.ablesfuneralhomes.com.

Lloyd E. Draper was born on March 16, 1936  to Ernest and Beatrice (Albright) Draper on the family farm where he would live for the next 80 plus years.  He attended country school and graduated from Eldora High School in the class of 1954.  Lloyd was united in marriage to the love of his life, Arlene Kirkdorffer on September 23, 1955 at the Ivester Church of the Brethren.  From this union two children were born: Mike and Lori.  Lloyd was a hardworking and passionate man in all that he did.   He farmed the family farm until his retirement and they enjoyed winters in Florida.  After retirement Lloyd and Arlene enjoyed delivering motorhomes for Winnebago.

He enjoyed NASCAR, Minnesota Vikings, dogs, welding, the Iowa State Fair, where he would attend every summer.  Lloyd volunteered his time to the fair in his later years but also enjoyed showing off his farm gadgets that he made and used.  He frequently attended Iowa State Cyclones football and basketball games.  Lloyd participated in RAGBRAI for 7 years.  Lloyd’s most important passion of his life was the time spent with his family.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Mike (Nancy) Draper and Lori (Mike Jeffries) Draper; Sisters: Colleen (Thad) Jones and Eleanor (Dennis) Hubbard; sister-in-law: Irene Draper; 3 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; parents: Ernest and Beatrice; as well as his brother: Manly Draper.
