Lloyd Calton

Lloyd Wesley Calton, 86, of Grundy Center, Iowa passed away November 21, 2012 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Hospice care. A memorial visitation will be at the Englekes / Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center on November 26, 2012 from 4PM to 7PM. A private burial will take place.

Lloyd was born November 17, 1926 in West Plains, MO, the son of Paul & Lula (Dye) Calton. He attended grade school in Homeland, MO and graduated high school in West Plains, MO.

He was united in marriage to Frances Marjorie Auffert on September 1, 1946. Lloyd was in the Navy for two years, attended Oklahoma Baptist University for 6 months and was then accepted to the School of Pharmacy at Drake University in Des Moines. He graduated on July 17, 1951. His first position as a pharmacist was at Wards Pharmacy in Ottumwa, IA where he worked for seven years. He then went to work for Osco Drug and worked in several stores (Fort Dodge, IA; Marion, IN and Waterloo, IA ) for the next nine years. He then came to Grundy Center as a pharmacist at Manly Drug.

In 1979 Lloyd and son David, also a registered pharmacist, opened the D.W. Calton Mercantile. In 1982 they opened Calton V&S and Pharmacy. Lloyd became sole owner in April of 1986. In 2001 Lloyd was honored as a 50 year Pharmacist and received a certificate from the Iowa Pharmacy Association signed by the governor. He closed the business in 2009 when he retired.

Lloyd loved to draw and has filled several drawing books. His joy was his eight great granddaughters.

Lloyd is survived by his wife Marge and children David (Lynne) Calton of Waterloo, Betty (James) Heeren of Grundy Center, grandchildren Wes (Brandee) Calton of Grand Junction, CO, Christopher Calton of Denver, CO, Carolyn (Jim) Walter of Colorado Springs, CO, John (Carrie) Heeren and Todd Heeren of Grundy Center, eight great grandchildren, a brother Lyle (and his wife Virginia) Calton of Kirkwood, MO and a sister-in-law Oleta Auffert of West Plains, MO.

He was proceeded in death by his son, Dr. Steven Calton, his parents Paul and Lula Calton, two brothers Eldon Calton and Doyle (and his wife Marge) Calton of Abilene, TX and one sister Louise (and husband Willis) Grimmius.
