Lila L. (Ubben) Smith, 79, of Marion, formerly of Dike, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 25th at the Winslow House Care Center in Marion. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 1st from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Engelkes-Abels Dike Chapel, 680 Main St., Dike, IA with the funeral service following the visitation at 1:30 PM at the funeral home. Lila was born on March 22, 1938 in Dike, Iowa, the daughter of Henry & Vera (Goodsel) Ubben. She was born in Cedar Falls and was raised in Dike, where she attended school, graduating with the class of 1956. On June 22, 1956, Lila married her high school sweetheart, Dick Smith. Together, the couple welcomed three children into their family.
Lila worked at as a waitress at various restaurants for the first few years she was out of high school. She then went to work for Hinson Manufacturing in Waterloo from 1963 until they closed their doors in 1976. She later worked for The Knife Factory in Dike, which was purchased by Rada Manufacturing and moved to Waverly, where she eventually retired.
Lila enjoyed her home life, going out for dinner with Dick, visits from her children and granddaughters, time with her kitty cats and would never turn down a casual trip to a casino. She was a very loyal wife, mother and grandmother, and the family she leaves behind will miss her deeply.
She is survived by her sons David Smith and Ron Smith, both of Dike and her daughter Diane (Jim) Midcalf of Center Point, IA; granddaughters Emma & Olivia Midcalf; sisters Violet Stuber of Dike and Mavis Reinerson of Phoenix, AZ. Lila was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dick; sister Pearl.
